これまで障害のある身体性、近年では触覚について研究を続けている伊藤氏は、「ユーモアとケア」をテーマに話してくれた。フロイトは、ユーモアには「周囲が『たぶんこうなんじゃないか』という思いを一瞬で払いのける力がある」として、ユーモアを「感情の節約」と言っているそうだ。フロイトのあげた囚人のユーモアの事例を伊藤氏は次の４つに分析している。ユーモアは現実を相対化していること、周囲を笑わせようとは思っていないこと、同情をはねのけるほどマイペースであること、ユーモアには感染力があること。そして、障害や病気を持っている方々の研究でもユーモアはたくさん出てくる、とさまざまな事例を紹介してくれた。今回の感染症が拡大している状況下でもユーモアが持てる力は大きく、「普段の日常では計画が先にあってそれを実行するという力が強いけれども、危機の中では逆にその行為の結果が読めなくなる。明日どうなるかわからないところでみんながとりあえずできることをやっていこうと思う……結果が分からないからこそ普段ならやらないことができ、そこにお互いをケアすることの一番大事な部分が出てくる」と伊藤氏は締めくくった。

東京工業大学科学技術創成研究院未来の人類研究センター、リベラルアーツ研究教育院准教授。MIT客員研究員（2019）。専門は美学、現代アート。もともと生物学者を目指していたが、大学３年次より文転。2010年に東京大学大学院人文社会系研究科基礎文化研究専攻美学芸術学専門分野博士課程を単位取得のうえ退学。同年、博士号を取得（文学）。主な著作に『目の見えない人は世界をどう見ているのか』（光文社）、『どもる体』（医学書院）、『記憶する体』（春秋社）、『手の倫理』（講談社）。WIRED Audi INNOVATION AWARD 2017、第13回（池田晶子記念）わたくし、つまりNobody賞（2020）受賞。

Asa Ito
Associate Professor, Tokyo Institute of Technology; aesthetics researcher
Asa Ito is director of the Future of Humanity Research Center at the Institute of Innovative Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology, where she is also an associate professor at the Institute for Liberal Arts. In 2019, she was a visiting research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She specializes in aesthetics and contemporary art. Originally aspiring to be a biologist, she switched to the humanities in her third year as an undergraduate. In 2010, she completed the coursework for the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, University of Tokyo, majoring in aesthetics in the Division of General Culture. That same year, she obtained a PhD in literature. Her major publications include How a Blind Person Sees the World (Kobunsha), A Body That Stutters (Igaku-Shoin), When a Body Memorizes (Shunjusha), and Ethics of the Hand (Kodansha). Her accolades include the Wired Audi Innovation Award 2017 and the 13th Akiko Ikeda I Am Nobody Award (2020).
